Matt King, the leader and founder of new party Democracy NZ, will be in Gisborne next week to introduce the party’s candidate,Chris Robinson, who will contest the East Coast electorate seat in the general election in October.
Mr Robinson is a retired policeman.
Mr King is a Northland farmer, andpreviously the National MP for Northland.
“But he did not agree with the stance that National was taking on many issues, so he started the new party Democracy NZ,” said a Gisborne organiser of the public meeting.
“Both Matt and Chris are concerned about the direction New Zealand is moving in, and want to protect the rights and freedoms of everyday Kiwis.
“Democracy NZ is very much the farmers’ party, and is more supportive of farmers than any of the other political parties,” she said.
“They very much oppose the unworkable legislation being put on the rural industry. They believe that farmers are the backbone of the country and need to be supported.
“Everyone is welcome to come along to hear these men speak, and feel free to ask questions.”
