A splash of colour and vibrancy has gone up in the past week on the windows of part of the old Masonic Hotel building, thanks to Gisborne-based abstract artist Leah McCann.

The work, titled Infinitude, was supported by Trust Tairawhiti and the Gisborne District Council and was done as part of the “Art in the City” programme.

She said it was a “neat opportunity to add a bit of colour and fun [to] this run-down spot” in a post on Facebook.

“Hope it brightens your day while you’re out and about.”

McCann has been described as an abstract, intuitive painter with an overarching aim to incite positivity through her paintings and murals.

Of this work, she said: “The concept of endless possibility is explored through colour, texture and form as a visual reminder that when we focus our energy and imagination, anything is achievable.”
