Gisborne District Council-funded contractors yesterday started cleaning up homes affected by the large amount of silt left behind from floodwaters.
The contractors are removing silt from up to eight metres around homes, including the garage, for anyone who needs the assistance, a council statement said.
“The work will prioritise homesthat have been yellow- and red-stickered, but we know there are more homes in need of help so if you or your neighbour has silt to clean up, get in touch.”
