One of the Royal New Zealand Navy’s eight Kaman SH-2G(I) Super Seasprite helicopters has been operating out of Gisborne in the past 48 hours as part of an exercise.

The exercise was planned some time ago. The chopper was not deployed here as part of the flood recovery.

The chopper and ground crew arrived on Wednesday and head back to Auckland today.

The aircraft is part of 6 Squadron based at RNZAF Base Auckland in Whenuapai.

The helicopters are deployed to RNZN ships and fulfil a combat and surveillance role, as well as providing transport and vertical replenishment capability.
