From a Neil Diamond tribute to The Beatles a capella.

From ukuleles to hauntingly beautiful Celtic music . . . the Musical Medley concert in aid of Alzheimers Gisborne Tairāwhiti had it all on Saturday.

The fundraising event made about $1800, almost double its expected amount, as people generously donated for the cause.

Alzheimers Gisborne Tairāwhiti manager, Tracy Robinson, said she was humbled by the support from the public.

On top of paying an entrance fee, many more gave a donation.

“I also give thanks to the generosity shown by the local musicians who gave freely of their time and talent to make the afternoon a resounding success.”

The concept of a concert grew from a conversation between local man, Peter Duckworth and acclaimed Auckland-based piano accordion player Maurice Jones, who was to have been the star attraction.

“However, at the last minute, Maurice underwent surgery and was unable to get to Gisborne, so Peter called on some of his mates and the locals came to the party in a stunningly generous fashion.”

All money raised will be used to continue the support for people with dementia and their families in this region.

“Alzheimers Gisborne Tairāwhiti works to empower people with dementia to live life to the fullest and be supported at each step of their journey.”
