Let’s hope Makorori beach turns it on for the competitors. My only misgiving is the infamous speedo or budgie smugglers contest.
Even though I’m not sure of the judging criteria, I would suggest Ian “Moti” Procter might be almost unbeatable.Historically “Moti” was one of the few practitioners of surfing in Speedos; Benny Hutchings is the only other one that springs to mind. He was in good company.
Even during his famed part-time, semi-pro era, “Moti” continued to need less fabric than anyone else. It’s a testament to his single-minded determination to run directly into the brick wall of fashion and public opinion that the world of Speedo continues as an alternative to board shorts.
