Wastewater works at the Lytton Road/ Stout St roundabout  are taking longer than expected.

The Gisborne District Council reports that as contractors were working on the repair, further breaks were identified which caused a sinkhole to develop.

Other services such as gas and water are close to the wastewater pipe, so much of the work is manual “as we can’t get machinery in and around these pipes”.

“We know it’s frustrating but the team’s working hard to get things sorted and should be finished Saturday,” said a post on the GDC Facebook page.  “Please be kind to them and give them a wave not a shout. Thanks for your patience.”

Due to the delays, work scheduled at the Lytton Road/Ormond Road intersection has been postponed until Tuesday  November 14.

Contractors will work day and night shifts.

The  intersection will be closed, with detours on Lytton and Ormond roads.

The work is expected to take between three and five  days to complete.

Heavy vehicles are advised to avoid the area and take the detour route where possible.
