The driver of one car involved in a two- car crash at the corner of Peel Street and Childers Road late on Saturday afternoon was checked over by ambulance officers.

An emergency services spokesman said the other vehicle involved had left the scene when they arrived.

“The remaining driver, a man, had some minor injuries and was checked at the scene by a St John ambulance crew,” he said.

The fire crew protected the crash site while the driver was taken care of.

Police have an inquiry under way. The crash happened just before 5pm .
