THE MetService has issued a Wave Warning for the coastline from Mahanga Beach at Mahia up to Potikirua Point at East Cape, with big seas from the south from tonight.

The warning is valid from 9pm tonight to 1am on Friday.

It involves a southerly swell of 4m early this evening, rising to 5m early tomorrow morning, then easing to 4m early tomorrow evening, with peak periods of 12 seconds between swells.

The highest risk period tide-wise is typically at or within 1-2 hours of high tide. The Gisborne high tides are at 1.23am and 1.45pm tomorrow.
