Re: Plaza removal mooted, September 26 story.
It beggars belief that the council has agreed to put the Crook Cook statue into the Tairawhiti Museum.
I thought the original outrage at the discovery this phoney had been living amongst us was enough justification to have it removed and replaced with
the more accurate version that now graces the foreshore at the Cut.
How on earth can those councillors who originally agreed that a mistake had been made and went to great lengths to rectify things, particularly the cultural insult that had occurred with the original establishment of the imposter on Titirangi, now think that this bit of bronze has any place in this region’s future? Why not melt the old bugger down and pay some suitably qualified sculptor to construct a replacement statue of one of Ngati OneOne’s paramount chiefs or princesses who merit occupying the existing site?
Surely it wouldn’t be hard to find a suitable candidate worthy of such an honour.
