Opinion

I searched for a media update on #nznationalparty MP Dr Reti but can’t find any new stories since last week. Surely his breach of privacy and ethical principles should top a rumour of more than a year old and a remark about a cry baby or a bike ride.

www.waikatotimes.co.nz/a/nz-news/350042517/how-shane-retis-ambulance-ride-alongs-likely-breached-patient-rights

I’ve also seen scant reporting about another #nationalparty MP Kuriger who used her Parliamentary emails over 50 times in an attempt to bully and influence the Ministry for Primary Industries over animal cruelty charges for her son and husband. She demanded an MPI official be sacked, claiming political interference. Cattle beasts were euthanised and her son found guilty but only Newsroom and the Farmers Weekly told the full story about MP Kuriger’s attempts to intimidate.

Simon Court of #ACT was hauled before the Privileges Committee, and last week found guilty for breaching confidentially.

I’m guessing that we won’t see weeks of multiple stories about any of these more serious actions than we do about rumours or cry babies for Labour or the Greens. We won’t be told their parties are in disarray and their leaders being hounded for being kind or not taking action.

Media bias is not good for our democracy and less than the truth will undermine democracy. News, if it is news, should be reported equally for all political parties.
