Man charged over puppy death

A GISBORNE man made an initial court appearance on Saturday on an animal cruelty charge relating to the death of a seven-week-old puppy.

The 23-year-old was charged with allegedly assaulting the pup and causing it to die.

He will appear again in Gisborne District Court on August 9.

Police said they were advised of the incident last week and the man was arrested on Friday.
