A Gisborne man has admitted numerous historical sexual offences against his daughter, for which he will inevitably be jailed.

The man, in his 50s, cannot be named to protect the victim, whose details are automatically protected by law.

The case involved offending from about 15 years ago, which the man previously denied. It was scheduled to be heard as a judge-alone trial starting yesterday morning in Gisborne District Court.

However, counsel Michael Lynch told Judge Warren Cathcart a resolution had been reached in which the Crown agreed to consolidate the charges into representative ones.

The man pleaded guilty on arraignment to each of the amended charges — sexual violation by rape, three counts of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, doing an indecent act, and assault using a spoon as a weapon.

He was remanded in custody for sentence on August 3.

Mr Lynch asked the court to direct a pre-sentence report and said it did not need to traverse the suitability of electronically monitored sentence options — his client conceded imprisonment would be the inevitable outcome for

him.
