COUNCILLOR Pat Seymour is holding a Makorori community meeting on Sunday to discuss the potential for a beach management plan.
Mrs Seymour said the community had sought the meeting in the hope that Gisborne District Council could restrict vehicles speeding on the beach and threatening families and other beach users.
Mayor Rehette Stoltz and council staff will attend the meeting.
Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency have been invited to discuss the many access ways on to the beach from the highway and resulting damage to the dunes.
Mrs Seymour said much damage had been caused at the southern end of the beach by people riding quad bikes in the wet and doing circuits on the dunes and in the mud. She is pictured standing on tyre tracks at the Makorori foreshore.
