A Gisborne man who won $1 million in Lotto was speechless when he claimed the prize yesterday. Mangapapa Four Square sold the winning ticket for Wednesday night’s Lotto draw.

Store owner Jitesh Ravla said when a winner of that size was processed, the Lotto machine locked up, and the person was taken to the office to fill out the paperwork.

Mr Ravla said the man was one of their regular customers, and a family man in his 50s or 60s.

He knew he had the winning ticket because he had checked the numbers online first.

“He didn’t say much, he was lost for words.”

It is the second first division ticket the store has sold. The last one was in November 2015, when a Gisborne couple shared the million dollar prize with two other winners.
