A log truck rolled on State Highway 2 at Muriwai at around 9.30am yesterday. The empty vehicle tipped over onto it side and blocked both lanes.

Light traffic was diverted through an orchard adjacent to the road. The truck driver was checked over by St John ambulance staff and was not transported to hospital. Firefighters dealt with spilled  fuel and oil from the truck.

Gisborne Hiabs and its heavy recovery vehicle brought the damaged rig back to Gisborne. It took a couple of hours before the highway was  reopened.
