Opinion
On Wednesday, The Gisborne Herald published a letter from me in which I stated how sad it was to see how cannabis affects young people's lives and employment, and that I had seen this 20 years ago in Napier.
I was saddened to read on page 7 of Thursday's Gisborne
Herald that six childcare centre workers in Rotorua tested positive to cannabis, and the centre closed down two days later. This article was very sad reading; the first one to come to the team leader's attention seems to be a heavy user. Also very sad is the fact that five of the six are registered, qualified teachers — so therefore the years of study and tuition have now been wasted, and the country, the childcare sector, parents using this centre and the young children attending it have had their lives disrupted because of cannabis.
It is obvious that the voters of New Zealand must vote against legalising this terrible drug that ruins young lives. We need to support the police in their efforts to stop the drug trade.
