Shoppers at the Salvation Army Family Store were invited to join manager Heidi Parkes (far left), Mayor Rehette Stoltz (second left) and staff to share in the shop’s 50th birthday celebrations with chocolate cake.

Ms Parkes said the shop was as popular as ever.

”We don’t have a demographic,” she said. The  shop catered for all age ranges.

”If you have money, you are my demographic.

If you have a need, you are the Salvation Army’s demographic,” she said.

“The neat thing about op shopping is you don’t know what you need until you see it.”

Mrs Stoltz said the shop was part of a great organisation. It did not just sell stock but served the community.

Photographs showing many of the store’s activities over the last 50 years were also on display.
