Gisborne audiences will soon have the chance to see global roots reggae phenomenon Katchafire when they headline at the fourth annual Summer Frequencies music festival on Saturday, January 18.
Hailing from Kirikiriroa/Hamilton, Katchafire is an all-Māori band made up of Grenville Bell on lead guitar, son Logan Bell on guitarand vocals, Jordan Bell on the drums and Leonard “Leon” Davey on percussion and vocals.
Over the years, the band has released seven albums, won numerous awards - including Highest Selling Single (Giddy Up) at the 2003 NZ Music Awards - and appeared at major events like the Arizona Music & Arts Festival, the Austin Reggae Festival in Texas and the Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia to name a few.
They have shared the stage with artists like Damien Marley, Steel Pulse, UB40 and The Wailers.
Other artists performing at Summer Frequencies include Sons of Zion, Tomorrow People, Lisi, Conkarah, Jahboy, King Kapisi, DJ K-Swizz and Chong Lee.
The festival will kick off with a special VIP pre-party on Friday, January 17 from 3pm to 10.30pm. There will be door sales on both days, with capacity for 3000 at the venue.
Audiences can expect a laidback vibe of reggae, soul and hip hop.
