THE man seriously injujred in an alleged assault in Bright Street early on Thursday morning remains in the intensive care unit at Gisborne Hospital in a stable condition.

A 16-year-old youth has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

The injured man, aged 22, not 18 as earlier reported, suffered what police described as serious head injuries in the incident.

The charged youth was remanded in custody at his first appearance in the Gisborne Youth Court on Thursday.

He was scheduled to appear in court again next Friday.

Police have appealed for information from anyone who was in or around the McDonald’s outlet at about 1.50am on Thursday when the incident occurred.
