AN injured girl from a school in Hawke’s Bay was winched out of the bush by a rescue helicopter yesterday afternoon after a mishap on the Ngamoko Track at Lake Waikaremoana.

The emergency services were notified of the accident at around 1.25pm yesterday.?“The school group the child was with were staying at Kaitawa Camp near the lake road,” police said.

The Lowe Corporation rescue helicopter from Hawke’s Bay was mobilised.

“The 12-year-old girl had sprained one of her ankles,” a chopper spokesman said.

“The area was quite inaccessible so the helicopter was used to winch her out.”
