Police are appealing for information after a pensioner was found with serious injuries in Wainui at the weekend.

The 71 year-old man was located in a serious condition on Moana Road, under the Okitu Bridge, around 10.30am on Sunday, October 22.

The man was transported to Waikato Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition, a police media statement said.

“A scene examination has been conducted.

“Initial police inquiries, which remain ongoing, have established that he is a Wainui man who lives a short distance from the bridge.

“He walks daily, usually mid-morning, from his home on Wairere Road to the Makorori Headland and back.

“He is described as reasonably frail. He has a slight build, is 160cm and walks with a slight stoop.

“On this occasion, he was wearing a thin, blue long-sleeve thermal top, black fleecy trackpants and brown/black tramping boots.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen this man on Sunday morning or who has any information as to how he may have sustained his injuries.

“This would include anyone who has CCTV of the Wairere Road (Ocean Park end) and Okitu Bridge area.

“If you have any information which may assist us in our investigation, please contact police on 105 online via https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105 and reference file number: 231022/2943.”
