Opinion
Through your column I would like to emphasise what a great year this has been for Gisborne Boys’ High School, being awarded two Prime Minister’s Scholarships.
People I have spoken to were aware of these scholarships but not of their significance. They are regarded extremely highly in the education sector
— for some, one of the highest if not the highest award a school can obtain. And GBHS gained two this year.
The carving department was recognised and awarded one of these scholarships. To Craig, a well deserved award for the consistently high standard of work achieved by your students. To the Gisborne public; the students’ work goes on display once a year at the school, where members of the public are invited to view it. This year was the best standard I have seen but I am no expert; the work just looked awesome. To those boys — well done, it was great to see you all so proud of your work.
To Greg and the staff, what a fantastic achievement to be awarded the Supreme Prime Minister’s Scholarship. This award is obviously a reflection of the hard work you all put in to educating your students. I look at the end product and cannot stop thinking what wonderful young men are now walking through the gates for the last time.
Congratulations GBHS for an absolutely outstanding year.
