A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

Wow! the recent appointment of Maori/other ethnic minority MPs to important political roles within the Labour Government as well as the inclusion of the Greens, shows us that after 180 years of tokenistic appeasement by all the major political players, finally the landscape within the corridors of power are shifting.

As a progressive nation striving to be more inclusive of the diverse make-up of our population. This is a good thing. Something we can model ourselves on in our upcoming local elections.

Is it time for bringing in more Maori councillors and Maori wards based on our 50/50 local population ratio?

Let's follow the Government's lead stop mucking around and just do it.
