Hurt surfer out of hospital, home to recover

The woman injured in a surfing accident at Wainui Beach on Sunday afternoon has now been discharged from Gisborne Hospital.

The 34-year-old was hurt when she came off her board and landed on the sand mid-afternoon on Sunday near the surf club.

She was treated at the scene by lifeguards and then taken to hospital by ambulance.

The hospital reported yesterday the woman was discharged on Tuesday, to further recover at home.

St John have praised the lifeguards involved in the emergency last weekend for the way they handled the situation.
