A HEAVILY intoxicated 16-year-old was taken to Gisborne Hospital by ambulance this morning from a party in the city. It has prompted a warning from St John for parents to keep a close eye on their children around alcohol.
Party-goers at the house called for an ambulance at around 2am.
“The youngster was completely intoxicated and was not well when we arrived,” said a St John ambulance officer who attended.
“We transported him to the emergency department in a status 3 (moderate) condition.”
The youth was treated in hospital and later discharged.
“The episode points to just how easy it is for young under age teens to get access to alcohol and that is something we ask parents to be mindful of,” said the ambulance officer.
“Sadly last night’s episode is not an uncommon event.”
