A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

It was a patchy week for the Trust Tairāwhiti Eastland Rescue Helicopter — due in part to high winds experienced over the weekend – but the team still managed to fly seven missions in the week from Monday, September 11.

On the Monday, the team transferred a patient from Gisborne Hospital to Dannevirke, from where they were taken on to Wellington Hospital.

The following day they responded to a motor vehicle accident at Te Araroa, with the patient flown in a stable condition to Gisborne Hospital.

Wednesday was a hectic day with a total of four missions.

The day started early with a 3am call-out to a medical event in Tokomaru Bay, followed by a medical event in Ruatoria at 8.50am, and another in Te Puia Springs at 11.30am. All patients were flown in stable condition to Gisborne Hospital.

Then just after 4pm the team was called to a trauma at Tirohanga, just east of Ōpōtiki. The patient was transported in a critical condition to Waikato Hospital.
