Turihaua farmer and stud cattleman Hamish Williams embarks on a 12-day journey next week with a couple of mates as part of a fundraiser supporting Multiple Sclerosis.

The Bangers to Bluff motor rally will involve 20 colourfully decorated cars and their crews.

They depart from Auckland on Tuesday and head down to Invercargill.

They will all be driving old “bangers”, cars that will be auctioned off once they reach Invercargill.

All the proceeds raised from the sale of the cars, and other fundraising activities associated with the event, will mostly go to the New Zealand Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The rally has been organsied by Half Moon Bay Rotary of Auckland.

“I’ve got involved in it because our daughter Belinda suffers from MS ,” Hamish said.

He and wife Angela and Belinda have raised more than $12,000 already through sponsorship.

“The Ford Focus 2000 I’ll be driving, with a couple of my mates, has been decorated with the sponsors names and signwritten appropriately,” he said.

“It’ll be a fun trip, and we’ll be raising money for an excellent cause.”

Hamish reckons his car should raise around $2000 at auction.

“We’re very appreciative of Gisborne Motors Ford, who have done a paint job on the car, and prepared it for me for the road trip, at their expense.”
