I enjoy walks along the beach here in Gisborne on a daily basis. Some days as I stand and gaze out to sea I think “gosh, what a perfect spot”. But then I lower my gaze and look around me, and sometimes am shocked by what I see.
On Monday
this week, first thing in the morning, I was confronted by all manner of rubbish on the beach; plastic bottles, lids, bags, condoms and their wrappers, and one of the things I hate the most, dog poop — it was everywhere, I literally had to pick my way through it in places.
While there I counted a total of nine dogs brought down to the beach, none on leads, and not one was cleaned up after.
Come on dog owners, please show some respect for our beaches — which we all have the right to enjoy without having to play in your dog’s mess. You wouldn’t appreciate it if someone did the same thing in your front yard and your children had to play in it.
I have been a dog owner myself and I certainly never left her mess anywhere for others to deal with.
