A group of Mongrel Mob members have been charged with possessing firearms and other offences after a gang-related incident in which a man was allegedly stabbed outside his house in Gisborne.
Four men in gang regalia are said to have confronted the complainant at his house in Cambridge Terrace lastTuesday, June 13.
Claiming the man had made threats towards one of them, the group allegedly got into a physical fight with him on his front doorstep. He is said to have suffered stab wounds during the incident.
Police were called to the scene where a search of the group’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of bags containing two firearms and ammunition for each.
Karaitiana Kingi, 32, Shakur Grant, 26, Douglas Grant, 20, and Nikita Noa Noa, 21, were subsequently jointly charged with unlawful assembly, fighting in public, unlawfully carrying a semi-automatic .22 calibre rifle, unlawfully possessing a Brown Break-Action shotgun, and possession of 42 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and two shotgun shells.
Douglas Grant faces an additional charge for unlawful possession of an offensive weapon — a knife with a 20cm blade in a sheath, found under his gang patch.
The men are yet to plead to the charges; each of them is scheduled to make their next court appearance early next month.
Apart from Shakur Grant, they have all been remanded on bail. Judge Warren Cathcart heard Shakur Grant’s bail application in Gisborne District Court on Monday but declined to grant it and remanded him into custody.
