Burials are back on in most sections of Taruheru Cemetery, which will come as a great relief to grieving families.

The interment situation at Taruheru has been disrupted several times since cyclones Hale and Gabrielle and other heavy rain events, the most recent earlier this month.

Water table levels rose to the point that burials could not proceed.

A council spokeswoman provided an update on Wednesday.

She said while there were still some areas of the cemetery affected by the watertable level, casket interments could be provided for.
