Gold Creek Simmentals from Te Karaka kicked off the Gisborne stud bull sale season on Monday afternoon on a very positive note with an almost total clearance, a bull sold to stud and a healthy average.

The on-farm auction drew a great crowd with the sale complex packed with more than 200 bidders and supporters.

The stud put up 34 of their rising two-year-olds and sold 31, for an average of $7729, and a top price of $13,500. It was described as a strong sale.

“We had great support from local commercial clients, and there were many repeat buyers,” said studmaster Tom Sanson.

Lot 6 sold to stud and was purchased by Hadley Boyle of Evertree Simmentals in Waipukurau.

“The bulls looked fantastic, and we got many comments on the consistency and depth of the catalogue,” he said.

“The good weather on Monday was a bonus.”

Tom said before the sale that the bulls they presented this year were the most consistent line that they have ever produced.

Emma Pollitt from PGG Wrightson Genetics said it was another strong line up of bulls for the Gold Creek team.

“The offering was well presented and drew interest from plenty of local buyers, including some new to the programme. The top polled bulls with terminally bound data sold particularly well.”

The Gold Creek sale ushered in the R2 bull sales season in the district, with the Herefords auction early on in June and the Angus towards the end of the month.

Kerrah Simmentals from Whakaki held their eighth on-farm sale yesterday.

Results from that sale will be in The Gisborne Herald on Saturday.
