The theme was simple as International Day of Persons with Disabilities was marked in Gisborne this week . . . . “give it a go”.

An activity day was held at Kahutia Bowling Club for anyone interested.

Deputy Mayor Rehette Stoltz opened the day and everyone who turned up had a go at the activities on offer, said Disabled Persons Assembly chairwoman Trudel McKeown.

“It was great to see the different organisations there —ACC, Multiple Sclerosis, Te Whare Hauora o Te Aitanga a Hauiti to name a few.

“A German couple — who work with disabilities, were visiting Gisborne and had heard about the event — also turned up.

“They were very interested in how things work in New Zealand and to see the groups working together,” she said.

Caroline Callow, from Gisborne Stroke Support, said the venue was a “fabulous place”.

The support group was looking at becoming a member of the bowling club because access was good, most of their clients could bowl and the petanque court was of international standard.
