Gisborne Speedway Club driver Pete Rees has completed the “Grand Slam” of major trophies available in New Zealand superstock racing.
Foxton-based Rees, driving his 10G machine, won the 2024-2025 NZ Superstock Grand Prix title in a family trifecta at the Woodford Glen track in Kaiapoi, Canterbury, last week.
Sons Asherand Ethan were second and third respectively.
It completed a milestone treble for Rees senior − New Zealand, North Island and NZ Grand Prix champs titles − to go with a TWS World 240 crown.
Rees is believed to be one of only a handful of drivers to have achieved such success in any speedway class.
He was said to be “over the moon” with the success.
Rees won the 2014-2015 NZ champs in Wellington, was the North Island champ in 2010-2011 and the TWS World 240 superstock champion in 2011.
He went into the 2024-2025 superstocks GP having been runner-up four times at four different tracks, according to archive results on the Speedway New Zealand website.

Rees had already achieved the NZ, NZGP and North Island treble in the standard stockcars class - that effort included three New Zealand titles.
Gisborne speedway club vice-president Clyde McGrory, who won the NZ Grand Prix superstocks title in the 1988-1989 season, said Rees’s achievement was exceptional.
“Very few people can pick up four major titles like that in any class in speedway, and the club is very proud of Peter and his whole family.
“We are so lucky to have them so closely aligned with our club.”
The New Zealand superstock champs are in Nelson this Friday and Saturday. Asher Rees has won the past three NZ champs − in Rotorua, Huntly and last year in Meeanee.
The Gisborne club’s first meeting of 2025 is on January 18 and will include the saloon and production saloon champ of champs.
