Gisborne and Wairoa feature among the finalists in the annual Beef + Lamb NZ awards.
“These farmers, rural professionals, teams and innovators are leading the way in shaping a stronger, future‑fit red meat sector,” B+LNZ said.
Tairawhiti Whenua Charitable Trust from Gisborne is one of three finalists for the GallagherInnovative Farming Award.
Alice Wilson, from Wairoa, is a finalist in the Bioeconomy Science Institute Emerging Achiever Award.
A man synonymous with the work of Beef + Lamb NZ in many regions, including Tairawhiti – former B+LNZ extension lead Mark Harris – is a finalist in the FMG Rural Champion Award.
B+LNZ chief executive Alan Thomson said the judges were impressed by the quality of entries across all award categories.
“It has highlighted the depth of talent and innovation in the red meat sector.
“The judging team of farmers and industry professionals had a difficult job selecting the finalists from such strong entries as all the finalists were making a positive contribution to the sheep, beef and dairy beef sector.”
