Police have released CCTV images of two men they say are "persons of interest" after the shooting death of Bill Maangi at Forrester House. This man was seen walking along Ormond Rd towards the city.

The public has been asked to help identify two “people of interest” in a police homicide investigation.

Police said the pair was believed to be directly linked to the shooting of Bill Maangi at Forrester House in Ormond Rd, Gisborne, in late September.

They have reviewed CCTV footage from the area that shows two men wearing hooded sweatshirts.

“One was seen running from Forrester House over the Ormond Rd bridge on to Riperata St,” acting Detective Inspector James Keene said.

“Another was captured walking from Forrester House on Ormond Rd towards town, across Mary St corner and continuing on along Ormond Rd.”

Keene said the two men sought were linked to the theft of a Hyundai Sonata vehicle, reported stolen from Forrester House.

The vehicle was recovered by police on October 20.

“If anyone recognises these people or knows who they could be, please contact police via 105, either over the phone or online. Please reference Operation Bushman, or the file number 250929/9035.”

Police have also set up an online portal through which to submit information while information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.

“We are grateful for the community’s help and thank the members of the public who have helped so far.”

Maangi, 36, was found critically injured on the front lawn of the Forrester House accommodation complex early on Monday, September 29. He died in Gisborne Hospital.
