Gisborne City Vintage Railway volunteers were met with a mess to clean up when they arrived at the Gisborne Railway Station on Wednesday morning for the first of their Christmas/New Year public excursion trips on steam train Wa165.

Someone had smashed all of the overhead neon lighting tubes on the station platform.

“It was a depressing sight,” said one of the volunteers.

“Not a great look for our supportive locals and their out-of-town family, friends and holidaymakers.” Police have been advised.
