Gisborne students are ready to help out local charities and motorists through a bit of elbow grease this Saturday.

Nineteen students from Gisborne Intermediate School’s Tu Horouta leadership group will be  doing a car wash to raise money for charity.

Group spokesperson Zoe McNaught said the group was a mix of Year 7 and 8 students.

“The fundraiser will be held on November 11 from 12pm to 2.30pm at Kevin Hollis Glass (next to the Gladstone Road and Roebuck Road intersection) and the charities will be #Hear4u, the Cancer Society and the SPCA.

“When people come through to have their car washed, they will select which of the three charities they would like to donate towards. All money raised for each charity will go directly to that charity.

“One of our biggest mission statements this year was to give back to the community,” Zoe said. “As a result, this idea was composed as our major community contribution.

“We all discussed different local charities and narrowed it down to  the three. As a group we all have special connections with these three charities.”
