Getting The Gisborne Herald through

In the Wild West the Pony Express saying was “the mail must get through”.

Well in the ‘Wild East’ the same can be said of getting the Gisborne Herald out to people in the past 48 hours.

Friday’s paper was trucked down from the printing base at the NZ Herald in Auckland on Thursday

night as usual, but not directly to Gisborne.

It was taken to Rotorua and flown across here, arriving in time for delivery yesterday morning.

Friday’s edition was then distributed as usual throughout the city and district, even up the East Coast and to most other rural delivery locations.

The highways reopened at just the right time.

The same procedure was repeated overnight last night to get the Herald through, though if the Red rainfall warning materialises in full, today’s deliveries may be more of a challenge.
