Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in relation to an alleged assault at the intersection of Riperata Street and Lytton Road on Friday night.
He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to injure.
A man injured in the incident, aged in his 40s, was discharged from
Gisborne Hospital yesterday.
“We identified the arrested man as the alleged offender early in the investigation,” said Detective Sergeant Danny Kirk. “After efforts to locate him over the weekend and early this week, he made contact with police yesterday and offered to hand himself in.
“Information provided by the public was key to solving this alleged crime and we thank everyone who came forward and provided valuable information.”
