Police have made an arrest and charged a man in relation to a serious assault in Māhia during a disorder incident in the early hours of January 1.
A 34-year-old man was knocked unconscious and suffered facial injuries after he tried to break up an altercation between an unknown groupof people at about 12.40am in the carpark of the Newcastle Street hotel.
The victim was hospitalised and later discharged.
An investigation into the incident led Wairoa police, supported by the Eastern District Armed Offenders Squad, to execute a search warrant at a property on Apatu Street in Wairoa yesterday morning.
A 29-year-old patched member of Mongrel Mob Barbarians MC was arrested and was due to appear in Gisborne District Court today.
He faces several charges relating to the carpark incident, along with a charge relating to methamphetamine located on the premises and seized by police.
A 25-year-old woman at the property has been jointly charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply.
Police thanked members of the public who provided information that assisted with the investigation and led to the alleged serious assault arrest.
