Two of Gisborne's chartered clubs are operating under Alert Level 2 while the Cosmopolitan Club will make a decision next week.

Gisborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club president Roger Faber said club officials met on Wednesday morning and the club was operating later that day. All patrons must sign in or scan the Covid QR poster.

Patrons did not have to wear masks in cafes or restaurants and the same group of people could sit together within one metre, he said. They must be seated.

The club operated both bars operating on Wednesday night, usually a busy night at the club, but had since gone back to one bar with a Level 2 maximum capacity of 50 people.

No club promotions were being run and there was no lucky draw night.

Mr Faber said police visited the premises on Wednesday and had no issues with the operation of the club.

Gisborne RSA manager David Sly said they opened on Wednesday.

Patrons must wear masks when approaching the bar, he said. No music or other entertainment is available and attendance is limited to 50 people .

Gisborne Cosmopolitan Club members have been emailed and informed that the club remains closed. A decision will be made on Monday on whether to open.
