Tutumatai Station

A monitor farm programme returns to the East Coast tomorrow at Tutumatai Station (pictured) near Ruatōria and the invitation has gone out to all those interested to attend a field day to get the programme started.

Tutumatai Station will be a Beef + Lamb New Zealand local whenua Māori’ monitor farm under the programme He Kai Kei Aku Ringa.

The move has been championed by B+LNZ Tairāwhiti Māori agribusiness adviser Pania King and station farm manager Cam Brown.

It will be a two-year programme initially, with the option for a third year.

Tomorrow’s field day runs from 9am to 3pm.

Those attending need appropriate clothing, closed boots, a hat and, if available, a 4WD ute.

Lunch will be provided by Beef+Lamb NZ.

B+LNZ senior extension manager Mark Harris said it was great to see a monitor farm back on the Coast. “It has been about 20 years since there was one up there.”

B+LNZ ran a successful monitor farm programme at Raukura Station at Tiniroto for several years.
