The Federated Farmers “Farmers Feed Families” initiative supporting the Auckland City Mission made $69,700 — a fantastic result, Gisborne-Wairoa provincial president Toby Williams says.

A total of 239 donors contributed to the cause supporting families in need in Auckland.

“It's a little disappointing we did not reach our goal of $100,000 but we set it pretty high in the nationwide appeal,” Mr Williams said

“It's great that people jumped on to support us and gave some deserving people a helping hand at Christmas. Hopefully 2022 will be a better year for many.

“We are hoping to do something again this year but with a more local feel to it to help support the people of Tairāwhiti who are in need of a hand.

“We are not exactly sure how it will look yet and we will be talking to local agencies that support people in need to see what we could offer,” he said.

“Thanks to everyone who supported the cause and a happy new year to all.”
