Roger Strachan, Brett Loffler and Brett Teutenberg caught up at the end of the day’s proceedings at the Ngatapa dog trials last weekend.

The Ngatapa dog trial club kicked off the trial season in the region with a good trial last Friday and Saturday, and after a slow start they ended up with good numbers.

Results —

Long head (judge Jono McIntyre), 42 runs: Allen Irwin  and  Murray 94.5 points,  1; Henry Hindmarsh Spot 90, 2; Dan Macdonald Cuz 89, 3; Guy Thompson Jim 88, 4; Finn McKenzie Scragg 86, 5.  Intermediate: Dan Macdonald Cuz 89, 1. Maiden: Dan Macdonald Cuz 89, 1.

Short head and yard (judge Graeme Cook), 47 runs: Leo Edginton Larry 95, 1; Finn McKenzie Scragg 94.5, 2; Allen Irwin Murray 94, 3; Rob Jeffery Strike 93.5, 4; Henry Hindmarsh Spot 93, 5. Intermediate: Finn McKenzie Scragg 94.5, 1.  Maiden: George Nehoff Eve 86, 1.

Zig zag hunt (judge Hamish Thatcher), 96 runs: Ben Te Kahika Burt 96, 1; Leo Edginton Robert 94.5, 2; Allen Irwin Laurie 94, 3; Martin Walter Mate 93, 4; Andrew Savage Beau 92, 5. Intermediate: Ben Te Kahika Burt 96, 1. Maiden: Ben Te Kahika Burt 96, 1.

Straight hunt (judge Henry Hindmarsh), 100 runs: Leo Edginton Sheildzy 97.5, 1; Leo Edginton Skye 97, 2; Phil Cook Charm 96.5 ,3; Taylor Rika Wag 96, 4; Allen Irwin Steve 95.7, 5.  Intermediate: Phil Cook Charm 96.5, 1. Maiden Phil Cook Charm 96.5, 1.

“We had a fantastic dog trials with lots of young local competitors,” a trials spokeswoman said.

“Numbers were down slightly on previous years but there was a high standard of man and dog.”

The trial season continues next weekend (February 23-24) with the Matawai event.
