Tairāwhiti’s first “Brickshow” was so successful over Easter weekend, organisers want to make it an annual event.

Organised by Gisborne Lego Users Group, the show ran for two days in Te Wharau School hall.

“It was absolutely fabulous,” spokeswoman Jamie Kelly said.

The Lego Users Group decided to put on the show “to share our love and inspire some other like-minded people”, Jamie said.

“It went really well. I think people were pleasantly surprised at how big it was.

“Our biggest display was by Duncan Chisholm. He had a large Star Wars display while Bryce Kelly had a display (that went) all the way down the wall.

“And, of course, Jonathan Samson (the Gisborne Lego expert who appeared on the inaugural Lego Masters NZ TV series) had an impressive display.

“There would have been hundreds of thousands of dollars of Lego in that hall.”

Since the show, the Gisborne Lego Users Group Facebook page has picked up 30 new members.

“Hopefully we are going to have monthly meetings to catch up and share what we are building and plan a show for next year in a bigger venue.”

The Easter event was also a fundraiser for St John and a sausage sizzle was put on to raise money for Te Wharau School.

“Our biggest sponsor was Business Applications. They gave us free advertising and an eftpos machine,” Jamie said.

“We couldn’t have done it without them.”
