Entries have been coming in steadily for the competition sections of the annual Poverty Bay A&P Spring Show in October and so far would be on a par with previous years, according to Show association general manager Erica McNeil.

As of Wednesday, 90 percent of the available trades spaces for the town and country get together coming up October 12-14 had been booked.

“We have a few trade sites available in various areas of the Showgrounds Park, but we urge would-be exhibitors to contact the Show office today.”

Mrs McNeil said as of yesterday 69 dog trial entries had been received. The close-off date for these will be September 8.

“We expect a lot more to come in over the next week.”

The Home Industries section entries have closed. Entries there are down on previous years, Ms McNeil said.

The schedule for the National dancing has just gone up, and entries close in that section on September 15.

Likewise with the equestrian entries, the schedule there has just gone out.

Entries close for the horses and ponies on September 26.

“In the wood chopping there have been 21 entries confirmed to date,” Mrs McNeil said.

“Those entries have been trickling in and they close on September 15.”

The dairy goats entries close that day as well.

“No entries have been received so far, which is expected.”

The entries were slowly coming in for the shearing, she said.

“A lot enter on the day in the shearing.”

September 15 will be the close-off date for those as well.

“Overall, the entries across all sections of the Show are similar to previous years at this stage, being only the end of August.

“It’s great to see the sunshine, which is drying out the showgrounds nicely, ready for the big event in six weeks time.

“We’re looking forward to hosting yet another successful A&P Show.”
