ENTRIES are being taken now for the annual New Zealand Ewe Hogget Competition with the nationwide competition now into its 23rd year.

Organisers hope to see a further lift in entries from the North Island.

The unique hogget competition gives farmers the opportunity to benchmark their flocks against others at both local and national level.

“It also gives them the chance to compare different farming systems and learn from other competitors as well as the judging panel,” said competition convenor Stephen Rabbidge.

“All farmers are invited to enter and give it a go. What better way to assess your progress?”

The competition is supported by the Alliance Group, Boehringer Ingelheim, New Zealand Sheepbreeders, Farmers Weekly, Seed Force, FMG and PGG Wrightson Livestock. This year’s judges will be Charlie Seymour, Dave McKelvie and Keith Hamill.

Entries close on March 15 for the North Island, and March 25 for the South Island.

“The achievements of New Zealand farmers deserve more recognition and acknowledgement,” Mr Rabbidge said.

“The competition in its 23rd year continues to grow momentum in promoting excellence within the sheep industry.

“It is now more important than ever for sheep farmers to have an efficient and profitable business. This competition provides the ideal opportunity for entrants to compete and compare to ensure future success,” he said.

The date and location of the presentation dinner are still to be confirmed.

“We look forward to receiving your entries from all over New Zealand.”
