Enough on our plate — funds for CBD can wait

To those calling for council to “do something” about the alleged scruffiness of the CBD — don’t you think the district has enough on its plate at the moment?

Every time someone demands council “do” something, they should remember ratepayers have to pay for it.

Some may not have noticed, but times are tough for many.

A bit of dust and fluff doesn’t bother me — I can live with it.

As for visitors to the town — most Kiwis know we’ve been hit by weather events. My own visitors are happy to take me as they find me, no worries.

I do stress, however, many of us can’t live with ever-increasing rates, or wasting rates on non-priority stuff.

And in any case — the look of the CBD is largely reliant on business and property owners doing their bit. Perhaps they too have higher priorities in today’s economic environment.

So before calling for council to “do something”, realise this costs —and bounces immediately back as more hurt for ratepayers.
