An elderly woman critically injured in the crash between a car and a goods truck last week died in hospital on Sunday night.

The crash happened at the Back Ormond Road-State Highway 2 T-intersection late Tuesday afternoon.

The woman, who was driving the car, suffered multiple injuries and was transported in critical condition to the intensive care unit at Gisborne Hospital.

“We can advise the woman injured in the serious crash sadly succumbed to her injuries at around 7pm this evening,” police said on Sunday night.

“The Serious Crash Unit are continuing to investigate the crash, which happened at around 4.30pm last Tuesday afternoon.

“Police wish to pass on their sincere condolences to the whānau of the woman.”

The truck driver was treated and discharged from Gisborne Hospital.

Police said anyone with information regarding the crash can contact 105, quoting file number 240123/6841.
